Say whether you agree that on the “Pleasure of Hating” is a text designed that can be taking seriously

In my opinion I believe that this text written by Hazlitt should be taken seriously for many reasons, such as the simple fact that in the text he refers a lot to his past life witch tells us hate has a lot of effect on his life witch is serious and is not something to be laughed at because a lot has happened in his life.

“Without something to hate, we should lose the very spring of thought”. This passage written by Hazlitt, portrays how hatred guides people’s actions. I know this because he says the quotation above in his text he could be saying this from a personal view or one that he has seen, by him saying this I understand that he is trying to make a connection to the reader by in a way if you read between the lines asking when have you made an action upon hate, or when have you not made an action upon the idea of hate. hate does a lot of things such as make you open your eyes to see what or who is real and what could be seen as an imagination (that was a metaphor),some might say from a religious point of view that hate could be the devil in disguise making people hate each other and causing mischief.

Hazlitt decides to use a connotation when he says “men assemble in crowds, with eager enthusiasm, to witness a tragedy”. the connotation in that quotation is enthusiasm, he has done this to use it as a structure so that the sentence makes sense I personally think that without the connotation in this sentence it would not make sense and the reader would be complete confused and could be urged to stop reading. now back to the quotation and what I think it means, I think it means that all the men have gathered up all their hate in their body and put it into watching a tragedy happening whether this tragedy being a ganging or a public execution ten so be it b but this is what all the men with their hate have decided to do. Also it says that they have assembled in crowds that could suggest that they might of all been effected by the same thing or one bad thing happened witch has caused them to take their hate out on something witch happens to be a tragedy.

Hazlitt writes in a certain way, which is easy to connect to when reading his text on the pleasure of hating I found that I was able to connect with him for example when he says all the men gathered in crowds to witness a tragedy I thought to myself that like how many would gather to watch someone have a fight or if everyone does not like a fellow colleges they would all take him aside and beat him up, to be honest it just sounds like childish behavior kept for the playground. Another way the reader can connect is if they have been effected by hate the same way he has we understand that over the years Hazlitt learnt many ways to show his hate and hide it, he was very good at hiding it at times he would hide it through comedy we know this because he makes a lot of fun y remarks while writing this, another could depression is very key because it will not only affect him but the people around as well.

In this text of the pleasure of hating he tries to speak to the reader through his word in his text in many ways him even if you read between the lines asked the reader questions a lot of the times. At some stages he made me stop and think wow it’s like I’m having a one on one interview with him witch was astonishing.it is key that the writer tries to connect with the reader as much as possible because if he does not then the text will become doll and non-relatable witch is poor. Another thing that Hazlitt does witch is really key is his of language techniques one of the main ones I noticed my self was the frequent use of connotations he most of the time uses the at the end and the start to in a way give his sentences a spine because without them thy don’t make sense and it does not have the same effect as before. Also he uses a lot of verbs and anecdote’s quite a few times, but the key thing here is that he uses them to ether connect with the reader or give his sentences structure, I believe that without them his great piece on the pleasure of hating would be a disgrace and nothing to be proud of for a man of his literature skills.

This text could  have a heavy effect on a audience for many reasons, one being it could make some start to see hate as a good thing and make them think that without hate they would not be able to live without it because in the text it as “without something to hate we lose the spring of thought”. Another reason could be they could get paranoid because they think that everything around them is hate and that everyone hates them and they could say to them self’s what’s the point of living if I have no body that likes me everyone just hates me.

In conclusion to my essay I think that this text written by Hazlitt is to be taken serious and not a joke for many of the reason that I have said above, also I have learnt many things like without hate you will not be able to do many things also hate has a large affect on life and the actions I have, also the way he talks when he talks he connects with the reader. In the end of all of this this is a piece of text to be taken serious.

Renell –

This starts strongly but rapidly goes off. At the start you are selecting quotations and making intelligent points about the material and the text, but towards the end I felt like you were just trying to make the word-count. For example, saying vague things like “I felt like I was having a one to one interview with Hazlitt” might be appropriate for a primary school book review but this is GCSE work!

To improve the work focus on the quotations you select to carefully bring out the most important points.
